National Arts Festival (Makhanda) – Late June to Early July

Encounters South African International Documentary Festival – 20–30 June
The continent’s top documentary event lands in Cape Town & Joburg, spotlighting powerful stories and offering documentary-makers training, pitching labs, and mentoring opportunities.
Durban International Film Festival – 17–27 July
Africa’s premier film fest opens next month, with calls for submissions underway. Expect Oscar-qualifying features, shorts, masterclasses, and a vibrant marketplace to connect filmmakers and funders.
Hollywood African Cinema Connection – April Recap, Afterglow Continues
HACC’s debut in Cape Town brought together African creatives with global tech -savvy storytelling minds — including Web3-enabled co-productions. The ripple effects will be felt well into mid-year.
American Black Film Festival – Mid-June, Miami
South African storytellers have until 15 June to enter ABFF 2025 free of charge — a gateway to global recognition and networking . A huge opportunity for cast and crew to shine internationally.
Foreign Investment & Film Tourism
South Africa attracted R2.5 billion in foreign film investment (Nov 2023–Jun 2024), projected to grow to over R6 billion by late 2025. Camera crews booked over 59,000 hotel nights — a major boost for jobs and local talent.
